Project Description

Diriyah Season 2019

Our Scope

Diriyah Season saw Events Security Management (ESM) play an integral role in the delivery of some of the most high profile events ever held in Saudi Arabia, including the globally anticipated “Clash on the Dunes” Heavyweight Boxing Championship bout between Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua. The season is a month-long festival of sport and entertainment, with 2019 hosting shows from major international artists including Usher, Chris Brown, Calvin Harris and Swedish House Mafia.

Our Managing Director, Steve Coleman, was Head of Security and responsible for a team of 15 highly trained Security Managers. Each individual was responsible for their own zone in accordance with their specific skills and experience. The various zones under our control included a 35,000-capacity Live Nation concert arena and the “Land of Origins” family zone which was home to multiple attractions. In addition, we were also responsible for the 15,000-seater sporting arena that would hold both the world title fight and an international tennis tournament.

Our Actions

Clearly, the eyes of the world would be on Saudi Arabia and the success of these events, therefore we were determined to ensure a positive outcome for all involved. The ESM team liaised closely with venue stakeholders, transport teams and the local security committee to agree on operational requirements, whilst carrying out due diligence in the writing of overall security policies and procedures. Following the creation of these dedicated plans tailored to the needs of each individual zone, our Security Managers were able to oversee a detailed procurement programme.

Stringent tenders were put in place with an emphasis on selecting the very best local security partners; all of whom met the criteria for relevant experience, provision of high service levels and industry best practice. Furthermore, we also acted as Quality Assurance for the stakeholders and overall customer – the Ministry of Sport. With the aforementioned Joshua vs Ruiz title fight broadcast worldwide and attended by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, it was critical to implement detailed, effective security measures.

Our team of Security Managers delivered detailed training sessions, briefings, debriefs and on-post instructions to provide the highest possible level of service.

Our Legacy

As well as providing a world-class security service, at the same time we’re also passionate about leaving a positive lasting legacy for our customers, especially in people development. The event stewarding and security sector in Saudi Arabia does not have the same minimum standards required in the United Kingdom in terms of education and training. Therefore our team of Security Managers delivered detailed training sessions, briefings, debriefs and on-post instructions to provide the highest possible level of service. Alongside our security and crowd management responsibilities, we also implemented detailed audit processes throughout the duration of the project to ensure the complete financial transparency of our service providers, thus controlling budgets inline with customer requirements.

Our Results

We take great pride in the reputation we’ve built as a reliable provider of world-class security services in the Middle-East events sector.

Diriyah Season was a large-scale operation that saw ESM manage the deployment of over 100,000 security personnel throughout the month-long festivities. It was also a great success in gaining Saudi Arabia recognition on the global stage as a real contender to stage the top sporting events, competing with the likes of Las Vegas to host major world championship boxing. We’re proud to have contributed towards its success.
